The Role Of The PCC PCCs (Police and Crime Commissioners) are elected by the public to hold Chief Constables and the force to account, thus making the police answerable to the communities they serve. PCCs ensure community needs are met as effectively as possible and are improving local relationships through building confidence and restoring trust. They work in partnership across a range of agencies at local and national level to ensure there is a unified approach to preventing and reducing crime. PCC’s were introduced by the Government through the Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act (2011), Police and Crime Commissioners (PCCs) will be expected to cut crime and deliver effective and efficient policing.

Burnhope and the surrounding areas are Policed by the Consett Neighbourhood Police Team. They are committed to protecting residents, tackling criminals and solving problems. To do this more effectively they need your help in reporting crime and anti social behaviour. Residents can do this by reporting incidents via the 101 telephone service, Livechat on the Durham Police website or by reporting to the ASB Team at Durham County Council. Residents also have the opportunity to discuss their concerns with Beat Officers who regularly drop into Burnhope Community Centre on a Thursday morning. An easy way to keep up to date with what's happening and report crime is to visit and register on Durham Constabulary's website. With communities and the Police working together the area will be a safer place to live and work.
