Durham Bus Accessibility Event - Thursday 18th June

11th of June, 2026

The North East Mayoral Strategic Authority (North East MSA) in conjunction with Arriva, Go North East and Stagecoach will be running a series of events across the region to promote the accessibility features of the region’s brand new fleet of Zero Emission Buses (ZEBs).

The events are open to all but are especially aimed at those with additional accessibility needs of any type. This could be wheelchair users, people with visual impairments, parents with buggies, rollator users, or simply people who are a bit nervous about what to expect when boarding a bus. There will be an opportunity to practise boarding and alighting the bus in a relaxed and supportive environment, to explore the buses’ accessibility and safety features, and to speak directly with representatives from the North East MSA and local bus operators.

The events are also an opportunity to gather feedback and participants will be invited to share their experiences of using the new vehicles, highlight what works well, and suggest improvements or additional features they would like to see in future bus and bus stop designs.

These events form part of the region’s wider commitment to delivering cleaner, greener public transport while ensuring that services remain accessible and welcoming for everyone.
