Burnhope Centenary Gala - Saturday 16th May, 2026

27th of April, 2026

This year marks 100 years since the Durham Miners’ Gala was held in Burnhope, and volunteers from across the village have worked hard to put together a day of commemoration and celebration for the whole community and our neighbours.

The day will begin at 10.45am with a parade of banners and bands from the Burnhope Pit Wheel, through the village, to the War Memorial, before returning to Burnhope Cricket Club. This will be followed by a rendition of the miners’ hymn Gresford by brass and pipe bands, a talk from General Strike expert Dr Joe Redmayne, and a full afternoon of live music, children’s rides, stalls, food vans, and games.

Further information can be found at www.burnhopegala.com and on the Burnhope Centenary Gala Facebook page.
